Simon Cowell's £1m happy birthday to himself and the showbusiness party of 2009


It is being billed as the showbusiness event of the year. Simon Cowell, widely seen as the most powerful man in the entertainment industry, turns 50 in a few days' time, and a huge party for 400 guests is being planned for tomorrow. 'It's going to be a big bash,' says Cowell's PR, Max Clifford, with some understatement. But who's on the guest list? What will they bring for the man who has everything? And why are there rows behind the scenes about the 'unauthorised' party that was thrown for him a couple of months ago? ALISON BOSHOFF reveals all the juicy details. . .

NOT INVITED

Singer Steve Brookstein doesn't need to keep the date free. He was the first ever winner on The X Factor, back in 2004, but fell out with Simon and has since been dropped by his record label.

He was recently found singing in a Pizza Express in Maidstone, Ken! t.

George Sampson, who won Britain's Got Talent last year, has been dropped by Cowell for the sin of being 'not marketable enough'.

It would also be a surprise to see Sharon Osbourne, who quit The X Factor in a row over money and has been bitching about Cowell ever since.

GUEST OF HONOUR

Simon Cowell's mum Julie will be the guest of honour. Julie, who is 84 and lives in Brighton, could be held responsible for Cowell's love of showbusiness.
She was a cabaret dancer in her youth and also a principal girl in various West End productions. C

Cowell's late father Eric was an executive at EMI. Simon adores his mother, often holidays with her and makes a point of calling her every single day, no matter where in the world he is.
